Search and Seizure/Pupil Right of Privacy, K-8

School officials may conduct searches of a student's personal property if they have a reasonable basis to suspect that the search will reveal evidence that the student is violating school rules. A student search will be conducted by the principal or his/her designee. A reasonable effort will be made to contact a student's parent/guardian with regard to the circumstances surrounding the search. The principal or other official designated by the local board of education may search lockers or other storage facilities provided for use by students if there is a reasonable basis for such a search.
