Emergency Closing Information

In the event the Superintendent or her designee cancels school, such an announcement shall be made on the following radio stations:
  • 1160 AM WOBM
  • 1310 AM WOBM
  • 92.7 FM WOBM
  • 94.3 FM WJLK
  • 101.5 FM NJ101.5
  • 105.7 FM The Hawk

This information will also be announced on NEWS 12 NEW JERSEY, FiOS1NEWS and Howell Patch.

PTA/PTO groups may have telephone chains established. Whenever the public schools are closed, transportation will not be available for children who attend private schools. All after-school activities are cancelled when schools are closed. Please DO NOT call Police Headquarters for school cancellation information. This ties up telephone lines which may be needed for emergencies.

Members of the community can access emergency information online through the Howell Township Public Schools website, www.howell.k12.nj.us, Facebook (@howell.township.k8), Twitter (@HowellTwpK8) and Instagram (@howelltwpk8).

Howell Township covers a large geographic area; consequently, weather conditions may vary within the community. While we strongly encourage pupil attendance, ultimately, parents/guardians must make a decision regarding weather conditions (snow, flooding, heat) and the safety and well-being of their child(ren).

Howell Township Public Schools utilizes an automated telephone system that provides notification services for parental outreach, emergency broadcasts (such as school closings and delayed openings), and student attendance communications. Entering or updating your contact information is done through our Parent Portal system. If you need assistance with the Parent Portal, please contact your school’s main office staff.

EARLY DISMISSAL

On the occasion when it may become necessary to dismiss school early, every possible means of communication will be employed to notify parents and guardians of the time of dismissal. Please listen to your radio. Every effort should be made to ensure the proper supervision of children on their arrival home. In the event of an early dismissal, no students will be released to a person unless that person is on the child’s emergency card, or a note from the parent/guardian is sent to school stating the person’s name (in the event of an emergency, a phone call will suffice.)

DELAYED OPENING

Occasionally, circumstances such as inclement weather may necessitate a delayed opening or an early dismissal. When delayed openings are necessary, schools which normally begin at 8:05 a.m. will open at 9:35 a.m.; schools which normally begin at 8:45 a.m. will open at 10:15 a.m.; the middle schools which normally begin at 7:25 a.m. will open at 8:55 a.m.
