Excellent Educators for New Jersey (EE4NJ)
EE4NJ is a statewide initiative to implement a new educator evaluation system by the 2013-2014 school year. The goal of the initiative is to increase student achievement by recognizing effective, high-quality educators through fair, credible and rigorous evaluations and by supporting targeted, ongoing professional development for all educators to improve the quality of instruction, and ultimately student outcomes.
During the 2012-2013 school year, the district established a District Evaluation Advisory Committee (DEAC), which was charged with the responsibility of reviewing, evaluating, and selecting evaluation models for teachers, principals, and other educators in the district. The DEAC was comprised of a cross-section of staff members from across the district, representing all schools and instructional areas, as well as representation from the Board of Education, parents, the teaching association, and administration.
In October, the Board of Education approved the DEAC’s recommendation to adopt the Robert J. Marzano Causal Teacher Evaluation Model and Observation Tool, as the observation and evaluation instrument to be used for instructors in the district.
In December, the Board of Education approved the DEAC’s recommendation to adopt the Marzano School Leadership Evaluation Model, as the observation and evaluation instrument to be used for school administrators in the district.
As additional requirements are delineated by the New Jersey Department of Education, the DEAC will reconvene in order to address them.
