Helping Children Cope with Traumatic EventsThe tragedy in Newtown is likely to have an impact on many children, including some who live hundreds or even thousands of miles away. Mental health experts say parents and teachers and other people who spend time with kids need to be prepared to discuss the event. Please see the following attachments regarding discussions with children at different age levels, etc. We are here for you and your children; please don’t hesitate to reach out to us. Helping Children Cope in the Aftermath of Hurricane SandyAs children are returning to school after Hurricane Sandy, we know they will bring a range of experiences relating to their impact of this devastating storm. While we welcome a return to regular routines, we are also prepared to make room for children to discuss their storm experiences. Please see the following links which can provide you with information to help with the devastating effect from Hurricane Sandy. Everyone in all of our schools is here to help you and your family. Please reach out to us if we can assist you in any way. Thank you, Middle School Counselors

Smart Lunch Memorial is pleased to introduce a new grant program funded by the Howell Municipal Alliance. SMART LUNCH is an academically driven, failure-prevention program. The goal of SMART LUNCH is to provide at-risk students with a daily opportunity to work on current/missing homework during their lunch periods. Students would be referred to SMART LUNCH by their teachers, who would establish their own classroom criteria for the number of missed assignments. Students would attend SMART LUNCH on an “as needed” basis. Students that also feel they need to complete missed assignments can attend without teacher permission. This program would be limited to a maximum of 12 students per lunch period and is offered at Memorial Middle School on Tuesday and Thursday during every lunch period. For additional information; please contact the guidance department. Students of the MonthHowell Memorial Middle School would like to recognize the following students for becoming our Students of the Month.
