About Ardena

About Our School

Ardena School was opened in 1938. It was called the Consolidated School because it absorbed nine, one and two room schools held throughout Howell Township. The "big" school joined all Howell School districts into one. Now Ardena School is one of ten elementary schools and two middle schools.

We have a population of 430 students ranging from kindergarten to fifth grade. Our school has a family feeling due to its old fashioned, two story brick design. Our school colors are green and white, and the school mascot is the ram.

The world has entered an era of the most profound and challenging change in human history. In addition, studies have identified what is referred to as a “skills gap” - a difference in how students are prepared for the workforce and the skills and character employers are seeking to match the demands of today’s global economy. Therefore, to address these gaps in skills required to be prepared for the 21st Century, Ardena School implemented the 7 Habits of Highly Effective Children’s leadership model utilizing The Leader in Me philosophy developed by Sean Covey in September 2010. (For more information, please visit the Leader in Me website at www.TheLeaderInMe.org ).

As we teach these principles to young students, we are creating a generation of leaders, one child at a time. The 7 Habits are as follows:

Habit 1 - Be Proactive – You’re in Charge

Habit 2 - Begin With the End in Mind – Have a Plan

Habit 3 - Put First Things First – Work First, Then Play

Habit 4 – Think Win-Win – Everyone Can Win

Habit 5 – Seek First to Understand, Then Be Understood – Listen Before You Talk

Habit 6 - Synergize – Together is Better

Habit 7 – Sharpen the Saw – Balance Feels Best.

As Muriel Sumers states, “We only get one chance to prepare our students for a future that none of us can possibly predict. What are we going to do with that one chance?” Ardena School is being proactive with their approach.
